Facing Challenges and Changing Habits, with Mike Michalowicz

Episode 194:

Mike Michalowicz (mi-KAL-o-wits) is the author of Profit First, Surge, The Pumpkin Plan, Clockwork, and his newest release, Fix This Next. By his 35th birthday, Mike had founded and sold two companies – one to private equity and another to a Fortune 500. Today he is running his third multi-million dollar venture, Profit First Professionals.

Mike is a former small business columnist for The Wall Street Journal and the former business makeover specialist on MSNBC. Over the years, Mike has traveled the globe speaking with thousands of entrepreneurs, and is here today to share the best of what he has learned.

What you’ll learn about in this episode:

  • How Mike became an entrepreneur through “trial by fire” after burning bridges with his previous job early in his career
  • How Mike realized that becoming an entrepreneur was a lot of work and not an instant ticket to overnight success like he'd thought
  • Why learning to take out his own profits first and then put what was left back into his business was a game-changer for Mike
  • Why Mike identifies himself as a “shareholder in a small business” rather than a business owner or entrepreneur, and why the label matters to how he conducts his business
  • How Mike learned to “channel his behavioral paths” by setting key daily routines including small changes and motivators
  • What major challenges Mike faced, including losing his home and shuttering a business, before he found his path and created a new system of business
  • Why Mike wrote his new book to address the challenge business leaders often face in identifying what their businesses need from them
  • How to take Mike's Fix This Next free evaluation to help you address the weakest link in your business
  • How Mike has identified a way to out-market the competition every time, and how this will be the basis of his next book
  • How businesses must adapt to the realities of today's challenges by considering how they can help others in new ways
