08 Dec Why We Love Coaching!
When I first got into real estate, I had no experience. The only thing I had that even came close to experience was my time spent doing physical labor, working on houses for Chris back when I was 14 years old.
But within about 2 years I had done a number of deals for myself, and soon after that, I started to dive into coaching. Looking back, becoming a coach was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Here's why.
The Best Way to Learn? Teach!
Being a coach has taken my game to a whole new level. It has made me cram about 10 to 15 years' worth of real estate knowledge into two years because I have to be on top of my game all the time. It has forced me to become an expert and an authority in this industry, which has helped me acquire more deals of my own and helped hundreds of others take on more deals for themselves.
I have to understand each and every piece of the business in order to teach our Associates. I make sure that I’m giving them a knowledgeable answer and am 100% on my game to help them get their deals done. When I’m speaking to sellers, I’m essentially a senior Associate to them in the relationship, so I have to make sure that I have all the next-level questions answered in order to get these deals done.
Coaching has been a phenomenal experience and I plan to do it for a very long time. It’s a natural fit for who I am. I was captain of the football team in high school and was able to win a Super Bowl and go undefeated that year. Although that was a long time ago, that experience helped me realize that I enjoyed being a leader. I’m constantly working at being the best leader I can be. It’s a natural fit for me, to be out in front helping others get to where they want to be. It’s become a passion of mine.
One of the most impactful parts of being a coach is that I'm able to produce exponential results through the people I work with. I'm doing my own deals and generating revenue for myself, but then I'm also helping many of our Associates take deals under contract as well. I can only do so many deals myself, so by coaching our Associates I'm able to generate exponentially more wealth for our community. I love that I'm helping people build their ideal lifestyles and create generational wealth—all while also helping out our buyers and sellers.
Being a coach has taken my life to the next level, no matter what I’m doing, whether it’s coaching real estate, in my personal life, or in learning and growing. It has made me grow exponentially in all of those areas, very quickly.
You Can Learn ANYTHING! A Mentor Just Speeds Up the Process…
As a Seller Specialist, I help our Associates find properties and interact with sellers to get deals under contract. The crazy part is that this is the one area I really struggled in when I first got into real estate.
When I quit my bartending job and dove into real estate, I was terrible on the phone. It was pretty bad for the first three or four months. And to make matters worse, I was never much of a numbers guy—so even if I managed to get an interested seller, I had a tough time figuring out all the numbers and working out the intricacies of each deal.
I say this to let you know that all of these things can be learned. I did it by watching Chris, educating myself through books, and a whole lot of trial and error. It took a lot of time and effort, but I eventually got to the point where I felt comfortable on the phone and was able to figure out all the nuances behind structuring deals.
Now, I've even gone back and rewritten all of our scripts based on the experience I've had over the years working with sellers. I go through the numbers on deals all the time in our Deal Structure Sunday Videos and with our Associates. I could calculate deals in my sleep. (Sometimes, I do!)
I think one of the best parts about working with a coach is that you essentially get to bypass all of that work and skip right to the front of the line. When I work with Associates, they're getting all the knowledge I've acquired over the years. I help them avoid all the mistakes I used to make, and I also know exactly where they're coming from since I've been there myself. The more I coach, the more I see the same patterns emerge, and the easier it becomes to help Associates get their first deal under contract.
I am a firm believer that anyone can become a master at anything if they put their mind to it and put in the work—especially nowadays, with all the free resources and information available to us. But having a mentor makes the whole process a lot quicker and easier!
Working In-Person with Associates
People who are new to Smart Real Estate Coach might think that this is all just online and virtual. That's not the case.
A big part of our coaching experience is hands-on. When you become an Associate, you get the chance to come to our office for free for two days and hang out with each of us. When Associates come to our office, I spend a lot of time with them. I go through live calls with them, and on the second day, they hop in the car with me and go wherever the appointments may be. We’re in the car all day long, hitting multiple appointments, and they get to see it done live and be involved in my interactions with sellers.
With our High 6 Associates and Immersion Associates, we even take it a step further. We'll fly out to you and go on appointments together.
If you haven’t been on any appointments yet—maybe you’re just learning—you can be in that situation before you go do it on your own. This is a super valuable experience, even if you’ve already been doing it a while, as you’ll pick up on some new things and get some extra experience underneath your belt.
I love getting to spend that time in the car with our Associates. I get to know every one of them very well and we have some great conversations—about real estate and everything else. This is one of the reasons why our community is so tight-knit. We spend quality time with all of our Associates and get to know them on a deep, personal level. They become part of our family!
