How to Set Goals, Take Action, and Achieve Success

We understand that transitioning to real estate and starting your own business can be a daunting task. There’s a lot to learn, a lot to take on, and many uncertainties involved.

That’s why our coaching program is centered around personal development, growth, and goal-setting. If you want to succeed in any business, you need these foundational skill sets. Being able to set goals, make a plan to achieve them, take action, and track your progress will ensure that you’re successful in nearly anything you do.

But how do you start? The important thing is to take it slow. Implement daily disciplines, form good habits, and think about what you ultimately want to achieve in your life and business. Then, you can begin to chart your path to success.

Start! (And Start Small)

The key with anything like this is to just start. It doesn’t really matter how much progress you make right off the bat, you just need to get in motion.

What can you tackle today? Take short steps!

Don’t beat yourself up and say, “I’ve got to raise the bar! I need to make way more calls! I’m going to call 20 people every day, starting today.” That’s too much. If you haven’t called anyone ever, you’re not going to do 20. Perhaps do one every third day, then one every day, then two every day. Start small and constantly raise the bar as you go.

When you approach it with this mindset you’ll find that these habits and disciplines quickly become very easy and very rewarding.

This is the strategy we’ve implemented at Smart Real Estate Coach for nearly everything we do. When I started writing my first book in August of 2016, it was overwhelming for me and everyone involved. Just think about all that goes into creating a book! Coming up with ideas, writing, editing, more editing, designing, publishing, marketing…the list goes on.

But, we took it slow. We conquered it one step at a time and we worked as a team throughout the entire process.

Many of you reading this may know of Nick’s story. After a serious head injury from a snowboarding accident, we were told he may never walk again. From day one, his goal was to one day run out of the hospital he found himself in.

But do you think he tried to run that day? Of course not. He focused on tiny improvements every day, and eventually, he did run out of that hospital. But it took time.

Start small, then focus on incremental improvements. And no matter what you do, you have to start. Right now.

Set your goals

What do you deem as success? And what needs to happen for you to get there?

This is something most of us feel like we can answer, but we never actually take the time to clarify it and put it down on paper. Here’s an exercise you can do to get started right now.

Finish this statement (whichever one applies to your business):

If I could get _____________ to do business with us, our business would totally change.

If I could get _____________ (a prospect) to join with me, it would catapult our business.

If I could get _____________ (type of deal), our business would skyrocket.

Those who are succeeding in any business have simply decided to do some things that others are not willing to do. Don’t be left behind. Very few people realize that success is within their reach.

Your success is within your reach if you just get clear on what needs to happen and then take action.

Take action

You’ll never change your business or life until you change something that you do today. So, what one thing will you start today? Write it down.

It might sound like a lot of work to get started on this, but ultimately, it's not. By practicing daily disciplines and incorporating the simple strategies outlined here, you’ll be well on your way. Really, all you need to do is focus on small improvements each day that will add up over time.

And just think: what would happen if you don’t do any of this? Months from now, you’ll be thinking, “I wish I had done ____.” As Tony Robbins says, you’ll get caught up in “shoulding” yourself.

Don’t worry about what you should have done last month or last week. Start today, keep it small, set your goals, and take action. That’s it!

If you can do that, you’ll never find yourself saying “I wish I had done ____.”
